Indices gain after surprise; focus on global cues again

The Sensex ended up 460 points, or 0.8%, at 58,926.03 and the Nifty ended up 142 points, or 0.8%, at 17,605.85. The direction of the markets now on will depend on global trends, which are signalling continued caution. The Nifty could continue to face a stiff hurdle at 17,800 levels.
